Mkhondo Local Municipality Heritage Celebration "Tourism For All" event through INGOMA
Once again, on the 05 November 2016 Mkhondo Local Municipality hosted an INGOMA event competion, 25 Groups were invited to compete against each other celebration and showcasing the beauty of our cultural way of dancing through "Ukugida", the groups were dressed on their cultural diversity attires. The Event took place at Entombe (Ezitholeni) Sports Ground - Ward 15.
It took a Good Samaritan to initiate a process of building a house for Gogo Mdluli of S’godiphola in Ward 10 who has been living in a dilapidated mud house for years.
Thursday, the 29th of September 2016 turned to be a dream come true to Gogo Mdluli (69) who resides at S’godiphola in Ward 10.
Mkhondo Local Municipality Celebrates Heritage Month Through Ingoma
September sees South Africans celebrating and honoring heritage month by showcasing their cultural diversities.
On the 25 of September 2016 Mkhondo Local Municipality hosted an Ingoma event at the Sulpherspring Show grounds, where 27 groups were invited to compete against each other as a way of celebrating and displaying the beauty of our culture through ukugida. The community of Sulpherspring and surrounding areas came out in numbers to witness this thrilling occasion, where the participating groups wore cultural attires and performed enthusiastically as the crowd roared with excitement for their favorite groups. As the competition draw to an end the MMC, Honorable Cllr. Thembi Khumalo, and Honorable Cllr. Thokozani Manana from Ward 9 thanked the community for their support and involvement during the course of the event. The top five winners were announced at the end of the show where together they took home a some of R30, 000 in cash. Indeed the event was nothing short of extraordinary.
eMKHONDO – On the 10th September 2016, the stunning Pretty Yende September 2016, the stunning Pretty Yende made a home coming visit and called upon the people of eMkhondo to come and celebrate her music journey at the Mkhondo town hall.
The born and bred star from eMkhondo was very excited to interact with her homies and fans, the opera singer was selling her first CD album, which sold like hot cakes, as the event unfolded the star allowed the audience to ask her questions concerning her journey in the music industry. At the end of her conversation with the audience she concluded by saying "Do what you believe will make you a successful somebody in the future."
Pretty Yende released her debut album, 'A Journey'. Her accent is a strange mixture of isiZulu and Italian. During the event she interacted with her fans by signing autographs. You could see that the fans were in jubilation.
eMKHONDO — During the month of August each year South Africa celebrates Women’s month, this celebration serves to honor and remember the courageous women of 1956 who fought for the liberty of women.
On Wednesday the 26th of August 2016 women from Mkhondo Local Municipality visited Klein Vrystaat and Mehlwemamba primary school to donate sanitary towels for under privileged learners in view of assisting and empowering young girls from rural areas who come from poverty stricken backgrounds. The program was led by the MMC of Corporate Services, Cllr Thembi Khumalo who advised and encouraged learners to cherish and value themselves. Mrs. Khanyi who is the headmaster at Klein Vrystat primary expressed her gratitude and delight, as her school was the first to be selected to benefit from the program, she joyfully stated that the initiative will have a positive impact and contribute immensely in promoting and restoring the girl’s self-esteem and good health.
Following this program was the main event which was held at the Municipal Town Hall, where the women got a chance to network and engage on topics about relationships, politics and health issues. Cllr Ngelosi Ndhlovu who is the Speaker and political veteran of Mkhondo Municipality sealed off the main session by sharing her in-depth knowledge about the dynamics and challenges women face when involved in politics.
“I feel exceptional and special as a woman as this is the very first event held in the past ten years to honor and celebrate women in the municipality Cllr Ndhlovu said. In the last and final session of the day, the ladies participated in an exciting and energy boosting aerobic session which was directed at improving and promoting a healthy lifestyle.
eMKHONDO — Zara Fusion investors put over R 90 M in new real estate project after having obtained the authority from the Council to build a new Shopping Mall, a new mixed real estate project.
The works are scheduled to start in late spring 2016, and the inauguration is set for the final quarter of 2017, according to a statement of the developers.
eMKHONDO – The new Municipal Council for Mkhondo Local Municipality was sworn in on Friday, 19 of August 2016 The new Councillors represented a multitude of different political parties.
Members of the community gathered in the Council Chambers to witness the event and see their choices sworn in. Most of the choices were not a surprise to residents, already knew or suspected who would be representing them in the Council.
The Municipal Manager, Madubula Mabuza presided over the first sitting of the Council as duly appointed by the MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs. Magistrate Mthembu sworn in all Councillors. The Council comprises thirty eight (38) Councillors with the ANC commanding with the vast majority of 29 seats, followed by the DA with 4 seats, EFF with 3 seats, IFP and PAC with 1 seat each. The ANC Cllr Busi Mkhwanazi, Cllr Skhumbuzo Zulu, Executive Mayor Vusi Motha and DA Cllr Brussow were elected to represent the Council in the Gert Sibande District Municipality.
